Berry Hill 30 Lydney 12 - Forest combination youth cup final

The final game of the season saw Berry Hill in their second final of the week, this time in the forest combination youth cup hosted at Dockham road Cinderford. With local rivals Lydney the opposition both teams were looking to round things off on a good note. Berry started slowly allowing Lydney a lot of early possession but they finally broke through with Cobi Robinson. The large pitch and windy conditions however made kicking difficult and they could not maximize the score thus forcing them to keep the ball in hand and push for tries for the rest of the game. Although this was not Hill’s best performance they managed to run in another 5 tries with the fifth try from Matty Office  completing his brace being the pick of the bunch. Other tries were scored by forwards William Tyler and Elliot Clarke with winger Ben Robbins claiming his first try of the season. After the final whistle the team climbed the steps up into the stand to collect their winners medals with captain Harry Brown lifting the cup to the applause of the large crowd.

Berry Hill 14 Old Richians 12 - county Plate final

Berry Hill’s county plate final against Old Richians turned out to be a nail biting affair. A close match was always on the cards and it took most of the first half before the deadlock was broken and Hill opened up the scoring with Kyle Bundy seizing on a loose ball after they had just been turned over in a scrum deep in Richians half. Ryan Dawson slotted the conversion between the posts giving Hill a slim 7 points margin going into the second half. Hill picked up the pace and started to apply some pressure nearly scoring again but they lost possession close to the line allowing Richians to come back and level the score. The tension started to mount as the minutes ebbed away with Hill again pushing hard in Richians half and finally being rewarded with a try as the forwards created a rolling mawl to put prop Conor Evans over the line. It was then left to captain Harry Brown to take the most important kick of the game and maximize the points. Richians however were not about to give up and came back with a try but the kick went wide leaving Hill narrowly in the lead with 5 minutes to go. It was now all about keeping the ball to the final whistle to round off the most exciting game of the season.

Berry Hill 60 Aldermaston 0

Berry  Hill hosted  touring side Aldermaston on a glorious sunny morning at Lakers road. With the ground  like  concrete it made for a  quick game and Hill moved  the  ball  across the  line to allow winger Ricky Davis to open up his legs and  the score. Hill  repeated this move  two more times allowing  Ricky to score his hat trick and  briefly take the title of  the seasons top try scorer.  Aldermaston battled hard but Hill kept to their game and  went into the break 38 points ahead.   The second  half saw  Cobi Robinson  collect is  hat trick and regain   the try  scoring crown as well as Oliver Morgan touching down and  Elliot Clarke finishing off  the match  with  a  powerful  run over the line. With 2 matches left   in the season and both of them finals there is is still plenty to play for.

Berry Hill 20 Stow on the Wold 5

For the plate semi final Berry Hill had an early start with the adjustment for British summer time and the long drive to Stow which may have been a reason for their slow start. Many errors causing breaks in play didn't help either in getting into a flow but they finally opened up the scoring with a well worked try resulting in Harry Brown going over the line. It was Brown again who increased the lead to see the visitors go into the break two tries up. For the second half Hill started to gain some form and pressurised Stow in their half ,Ryan Dawson kicked a penalty to increase the lead but poor judgement saw Stow strike back with their only score of the match. Hill responded and started to camp in the oppositions 22 and after some great defending with the ball being held up several times their final try came from forward Elliot Clarke who pushed through the Stow pack .The last play saw Ryan Dawson kicking the conversion to seal the win and progress  to the Plate Final. James Roberts was Hill's man of the match for some fine running on the wing.

Berry Hill 60 Lydney 6

With a late cancellation Berry Hill quickly arranged a local derby against Lydney in order to prepare for their county plate semi finals next week. Lydney showed their intentions early in the game to get some points on the board by taking a penalty  putting them 3 points ahead. This was the last time however they would find themselves in this position as Hill took control of the game and started to run in a series of tries. Harry Brown opened up the scoring and Elliot Clarke back from a long lay off due to injury powered over the line to see them 27 -6 ahead at the break. The second half again saw Hill dominating with a strong performance from  new  player Tom Burford. and further tries from William Lewis along with Harry Brown, Callum Wyman and James Roberts all completing a brace of tries each . The next time these 2 teams  meet will be in the final of the U15 Forest combination cup on the 2nd May.

Berry Hill 57 Longlevens 0

Berry Hill hosted Longlevens in the quarter finals of the county plate. Hill missing a few players and forced to make positional changes showed great strength talking the game to Longlevens. For the first 5 minutes Longlevens  held their lines  but Hill slowly got the upper hand to  notch up  a series of tries which went unanswered. Doninating in the centre with good interlinking play from Harry Brown and Billy Roberts meant Hill could control the game allowing Ricky Davis to regain his legs out pacing the opposition to run in 4 tries and picking up man of the match. Ryan Dawson was still on fantastic kicking form putting the ball between the posts 6 times from 9 attempts.

Berry Hill 22 Monmouth 38

With a break in the county competition Hill hosted Monmouth for their second encounter this season. Having won the first match Hill started the more confident and quickly opened up the scoring with Callum Wyman showing great strength to touch down. Monmouth however were not ready to capitulate and poor tackling saw them break through to level the score. Both teams then battled hard and took their opportunities to score but it was Hill who went into the break ahead 22 -19. The lead was not enough and now playing up the slope with the sun against them Monmouth gained the upper hand to take the win. Hill did have chances in the second half and camped in Monmouth's 22 for long periods but their ability to finish alluded them. Kyle Bundy picked up the man of the match but the whole team will need to improve their performance if they are to progress in the county plate.

Berry Hill 7 Cheltenham 28

Berry Hill hosted county champions Cheltenham for the last of their county cup pool games. After last weeks poor performance Hill were far more determined from the kick off and took the game to visitors pressurising them deep in their half. Cheltenham however showed great team play and broke loose to score first but this did not deter Hill and they quickly answered with Luke Davis siezing on a loose ball from a scrum to put in flanker Will Lewis. Both teams then battled hard for the rest of the half but it was Cheltenham who went into the break 2 tries ahead at 21 to 7. The second half continued the same as the first with both teams spending spells in the oppositions 22 but neither managed to score until 4 minutes before the final whistle when Cheltenham intercepted a pass and running three quarters of pitch to touch down between the posts. A much more spirited game from Hill with Will Lewis picking up man of the match

Berry Hill 3 Cleve 43

Berry Hill left the snowy peaks of Lakers Road for a warmer climate in Bristol to play Cleve. Travelling with a bare 15 due to injury and family engagements it was always going to be a tough job against last year's county cup finalists. Hill never looked to make a mark on the game and lacked the passion and focus they have showed on previous cup games. Cleve slowly notched up a series of tries which went unanswered except for a penalty by Ryan Dawson. A few players did step up to the challenge with Callum Wyman picking up Hill's man of match . Hopefully with players returning the final match of the county cup pool stage against Cheltenham will be a more entertaining affair.

Good  to see Olly Morgan at the game . Hopefully  he should be back in the side soon

Berry Hill 36 Old Richians 7

With a gap in the county cup schedule Hill played a friendly against long term rivals Old Richians. The game lacked the intensity of the previous cup matches but Hill still managed to clock up a series of tries to take the win. The first try came from the kicking maestro Ryan Dawson who found himself in unusual territory to touch down and then maximise the points. Richians however were straight on the counterattack and quickly levelled the score. This however was the last time they left their mark on the score line as Hill slowly ratcheted up the tries with breakways from William Lewis, Callum Wyman ,Ricky Davis and Cobi Robinson. Although this was not Hill's best performance they deserved the win and have some homework to focus on ready for the next county cup match away at Cleve. William Lewis was awarded Hill's man of the match even though his appetite for pickled eggs is not great.

Special  mention to  James Roberts who  was injured from the St Marys game but was at the Match  to cheer his team on

Berry Hill 20 St Marys 12

For their second group game in the County Cup Berry Hill travelled to Bristol to play St Marys. The 2 teams had only met once before last season and the game kicked off at a high pace as both teams sized each other up. St Marys were quicker out of the blocks and opened up the scoring in the first 4 minutes with a converted try. Hill however kept their focus and after pressuring St Marys for long periods mistakes crept in allowing Ryan Dawson to kick a penalty and Cobi Robinson to score in the corner. At half time Hill were ahead 10 -7 and now had the advantage of playing down the pitch. The pace never slowed with both teams having to give 100% defending and attacking but Hill again broke through with Ricky Davis touching down. As the clocked ticked away to full time the kicking skills of Ryan Dawson were called up again to score his second penalty and put the game beyond reach. Hill's player of the match was nominated by the referee with William Tyler picking up the accolade.

Berry Hill 64 Lydney 7

Berry Hill opened up their county cup campaign with an impressive win over local rivals Lydney. After a 7 week layoff due to bad weather Hill were the more determined from the whistle and soon opened up the scoring with a well worked try seeing James Roberts over the line. Ryan Dawson on fine kicking form maximised the points with the first of his 7 conversions. By half time the score line saw Hill 40 points ahead will Billy Roberts picking up a brace of tries. The second half continued in the same vain with Hill dominating and although the try rate slowed they still managed another 4 tries with forwards Callum Wyman, Will Tyler, Louie Vaughan and back Craig Harris touching down. Hill 's next county games is against St Marys they will take a lot from this game especially the need to improve their discipline and reduce the penalty count against them.
